Beware of individuals trying to gain access to your home computer

Manitoba is currently getting hit with a sophisticated internet/phone scam. Many people have reported receiving phone calls from individuals posing as Microsoft employees. These imposters make you believe that your home computer has a virus. They suggest that in an effort to remove the virus from your computer, you should permit them access to your computer remotely. After you have granted the individual access to your computer, they install a dangerous virus or malware onto your computer’s hard drive, all while you think they are removing the virus and helping to clean up your computer. Always be leery of anyone asking for information about your computer and never give anyone access to your computer remotely.

Keep your computer safe and never authorize unsolicited help. If you think your computer has been compromised, always seek advice from a trusted professional and call Cambrian’s customer support line at (204) 925-2727.
